1. Research federal agencies and explain which one you feel is the most important one and why? I think Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is important. It is a type of federal organization established by Congress with authority to regulate an aspect of the economy or a sector of the federal government. This agency has the responsibility of the quality of air, water, and land. Which we all need those things.
2. Which federal agency could be terminated with the least impact (if any) and why? I think all agencies play an important role, I think they are here for a reason so I really don't see how you could pick one to be terminated.
3. Are any new agencies needed? In other words, if you were president would you create new agencies? If so, in what area(s)? I'm sure a new agency could always be needed. But personally I think the agencies we have are doing their job and I can't think of where a new agency would be needed.
I agree with you about not being able to think of a new agency. I was going through the list and it was crazy how many federal agencies there are. I dont really think they are all necessary. I think instead of adding some I think they might want to combine them or just get rid of some of them. They definately dont all seem to be needed in my opinion. I noticed that some of them just repeat themselves. I found one that was the census bureau and a bureau of the census. The definitions of them were exactly the same.
ReplyDeleteYou included a lot of information in your blog and researched the topic very well. You made a very good point about the environmental agency, its effects, and its effectiveness. Obviously you did your homework on the subject. I kind of agree with your answer to number three about the necessity of another agency. With the shared responsibilities and authorities that are used in these agencies across the board, it easy to see that more than likely an important area that may not have a direct agency is already covered in some way. Great blog! You’ve had many great blogs this semester.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the EPA serves an important role deciding on rules and regulations for industrial/commerce business should follow to preserve our enviroment.
ReplyDeleteAfter doing this research, the list of government agencies out there is surprising. The one for every things. I am sure that more than one could be combined to another and serve the same purposed with less funding.
In regards to your answer to question 2, I feel the same way! I was literally staring at the list of agencies for ten minutes trying to figure out which agency I would choose to terminate and it was so difficult to make the decision. I'm still not confident with the answer I chose, to be honest. Each agency has their position in our government and I think each one is important. I wouldn't start a new agency either. The list is vast and I think the government has it all covered. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI personally think that we could probably get rid of a few. I feel like we have so many, and that some could do the job of others. It just seems like there so many agencies. Why not down grade a few so that when someone wants to call with a problem they don’t hear “that not my department” or “ we don’t handle that here.” It would be so much easier to just have one place to call. I just don’t understand why we have some agencies. The one I chose was Botanic Garden. It important to know how good plants are for humans, but do we really need an agency for that
ReplyDeleteGreat Job I agree that all the agencies that are in place right now are all doing their jobs and none should be terminated.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about question 2. Yes there are alot of agency and we could prop do without some but they are here for a reason and they have a job to do. Why would they be created if they could easly be terminated.
ReplyDeleteIn response to your answer to question 2, I do think that some could be terminated with less of an impact than others. On my blog, I mentioned the US Commision of Fine Arts. It doesn't have to be terminated but it wouldn't have the same impact as terminating the FDA.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that there are some agencies that are redundant and do not serve much of a purpose so therefore can be terminated. Some of these agencies are simply outdated or the cause they were originally created for has been resolved or is no longer an issue, they may have once served an important purpose. But if that purpose has now been served and said agency does not have crucial responsibilities it can be done away with.
