The issue of race- does the government do too
little or too much to reduce the instances of racial discrimination? Why or how
so? I believe the government does too
much. I feel like whites and blacks
are held at a different level still today. Although, we can all sit wherever we
want on a bus, we can attend whatever school we want, no matter what our skin
color may be. BUT I feel like the roles have someone changed due to racism in
the past. If a black murders a white, not much can be said because it will be “racist”.
But if a white murders a black it’s a “hate crime”. For an example, Trayvon
Martin. Trayvon Martin was a young African
American who was murdered by a mixed Hispanic man. This murder caught so much
attention from the news. However, the murders of Channon Christian and
Christopher Newsom who were a white couple were brutally murdered by four
African Americans. This didn’t get nearly the attention as Trayvon Martin’s
murder.

The issue of gender-same question. I think the government does too little with
the issue of gender. Reasons I think this is when we first heard of Sarah Palin,
and her running for vice president. Or when there was talk of Hilary Clinton
running for president these ladies were talked about as if they couldn’t do the
job the same as a man. I believe that a woman and can do whatever a man can and
yet I feel like women can now have the opportunity but just not the support
that is much needed.

The issue of sexual orientation-same question. I feel like the government is doing too much
with sexual orientation. As, a Christian I don’t believe in same sex and now
same sex couples can get married! This use to be illegal. It’s changing so
fast. I just find it wrong and I don’t
agree with it. I feel like the government is willing to let anything happen,
and that’s not good!

I completely agree with you about the issue of race. I was actually going to make the point of the christian newson murder but I decided not to. I think they got pushed aside just because they were white and the people who murdered them were white. It was such a heinous crime I couldnt believe it wasnt put on tv or heard about other than around here.I also agree with you about same sex marriage.It is such an unpopular answer especially with people our age.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comments on the race issue. The Trayvon Martin case was completely blown out of porportion. White (hispanics included) on Black crime will always make the national news just because it is viewed as a "hate crime". I think that the Martin case was more racial profiling or profiling in general rather than a "Hate Crime".
ReplyDeleteWomen in America in today's time have taken on more responsibilty and more of the head household role in single parent homes. I think the US Government should take on a more active role ensuring the enforcement of the Equal Pay Act.
Regarding your answer to question number 2, I never thought about what you said until I read it! It's so true that people these days are quick to judge a woman for doing a "man's job." I think women could do a lot of good for the government and America if they were president. It would be a huge change to see a female in office but definitely a good change. Hopefully one day soon, a woman will step up to the plate and won't be scrutinized... I think that would be another step towards true equality in America.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your answer on the issue of race. It is as though the push for equality was forced to a point where the roles flipped. Minority becomes majority and the previous majority is always guilty. I like your insight. I tend to disagree to a point with the other two but simply because I am of the opinion that Hilary Clinton literally CANNOT do a good job in office of ANY position. Obviously, because look at her now. But also on the sexual orientation because I have an unbiased view due to the fact I am non-religious. That is not to say you are wrong at all!! This is simply why they are called civil rights. It is our own personal right to believe this. And I love it that you share your opinions and beliefs. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI can see your point on the issue of race. I think it can play both ways. I know a couple that got pulled over by a cop when driving in a wealthier neighborhood that they live in. They were not speed and didn't break any traffic violates. When the officer saw their driver's licenses, he let them go without telling them why he stopped them. He simply pulled them over because the male was black. So there is racial profiling.
ReplyDeleteI think it's interesting how racism is generally one-sided. It's always that whites are racist against blacks but no one ever mentions blacks being racist against whites. This happens but no one ever mentions it. During the presidential elections I noticed this happening. I heard a lot of people say that some aren't voting for Obama because he's black and some are voting for him because he's black. This aggravated me because what does color have to do with being a good president. Obama could be black, white, yellow, purple, anything, and I still wouldn't vote for him.
